At Minademas, we hope to be more than a simple technology blog from Colombia. We want to be your guide through the world of computers and information technology.

The speed that technology is getting updated, improved, and invented these days is mind boggling. It’s natural to wonder just what type of impact all of this technology will have on human culture. Many experts are not only worried about how recent technological developments will impact first world countries, but also about how much wider the gulf between first and third world countries will become.

There are many who feel that as we become more dependent on technology, we’re creating a civilization of questionable morals and independence. It’s becoming increasingly difficult for many of us to function without the use of our computers, cell phones, and other bits of recently developed technology items that have made their ways into our home and professional life. Even more alarming is the decline in our ability to communicate with others. Face to face communication is fast becoming a thing of the past. Even more alarming the proposal some psychology experts have put forth that hypothesis that as our access to state of the art technology continues to grow, we will develop something called superiority syndrome which would turn us into a culture that’s unable to share or interact in a healthy manner.

The basis for this hypothesis is rooted in the past. For hundreds of years, the societies with the most advanced technology at the time enjoyed a brief period of extreme power, during which they bragged about being the most advanced, the most superior, in the world. The problem is that the technology they reveled in also became the vehicle that caused the overall trajectory of the society to change until they developed a dangerous ego and lost a great deal of their understanding about life and the world.

While it’s okay to enjoy modern technology, it’s equally important to occasionally set things aside and take some time to get back to a simpler way of life.

It seems that as soon as you’ve acquired some new electronic device, another, newer one comes along. There are many interesting electronic gadgets set to debut in 2015. When it comes to new technology that’s going to be available this year, don’t let yourself get caught up in the hype. In this case, you need to look before you leap.

The first thing you need to ask yourself when you’re getting a new piece of technology is whether or not it’s something you really need right at that particular moment. The odds are pretty good that the answer will be no. Waiting just one or two months before you pick up the item means that there will be time for those who did purchase it in the first rush to determine if there are any flaws in the device that needs to be rectified. Besides, the extra time also means you might be able to get the item at a reduced price.

When you do purchase the item, don’t be afraid to ask for help learning how to use it. The biggest advantage of purchasing the item from a brick and mortar store is that you’ll be able to ask the sales staff to show you exactly how the item should be used. This extra training means you’ll be comfortable with the device and be able to benefit from all its special features.

When you do decide that it’s time to purchase a new electronic device, set aside enough money to also purchase a protective case and an extended warranty. New technology is always delicate and you want to make sure it’s protected from bumps and drops

I have often wondered about the world we live in today. When you spend a little time with the older generations, such as those born before 1960, you learn that life used to be very different. During those “older” days there was no such thing as the Internet, cell phones, and television 24/7. I have spent hours talking with my parents and grandparents about their lives growing up and I have to ask myself a simple question. Is technology really making our culture better? Now there is no doubt that some technology is a great thing. The advent of the tractor and all the other farm equipment has made farming so much easier. But what about the cell phones and the computers? This is where the rub comes in. there is no doubt that this generation is more connected than ever before. Even when I was in high school we did not have social media. And I am thankful we did not have social media.

However when we look at technology and the social media craze we learn that the social media has connected more people but we are now more alone than ever before. Our social media pages might have hundreds of friends but how often do we see them? I really think that while some technology has made life easier and more productive, other forms of technology have really harmed us. I feel that we spend more and more time trying to impress people we rarely see and trying to put on a front that we have it all together. The truth of the matter is that there is no substitute for a one on one face-to-face conversation. Beat that technology.

There’s no denying that technology has improved by some truly astonishing leaps and bounds over the past 20 years. Suddenly all of those things that seemed like something out of sci-fi film we’re holding in our own hands. Who know what types of gadgets and gizmos will appear in the next year or two.

At this point, it’s likely that every single aspect of your life has been changed by technology in some way. Whether or not all of this new technology is good for society remains to be seen.

One of the things that has become very obvious about technology is that it allows us to stay connected to one another. No matter where you go or what you’re doing, whenever you feel a little bit lonely, all you have to do is log onto your favorite social networking site and you’ll find a whole group of friends who are ready and willing to chat with you.

On the other hand, there’s a chance technology could rapidly cause us to lose our ability to be self-sufficient. We no longer have to do simple things like memorize phone numbers, organize recipes, or worry how to book appointments during office hours because we have gadgets that do it for us.

Considering how fast technology is advancing, one has to wonder what important life skills will disappear forever.

We starting getting so used to being able to communicate with others via technology, that one has to wonder if the next generation will even develop the skills needed to communicate face to face with others of if they’ll only be able to communicate through tweets and text messages.

The best way to make sure you don’t let technology take over your life is unplugging everything every few days and enjoying the simple things.

When I got the news that my husband was being stationed in Colombia, I panicked. I knew little of the South American country except for the horrible things I had seen on the news about drug trafficking and massive crowds of orphans stuck in orphanages. I worried that I would be in danger and my husband would be in danger and I didn’t even want to think about what would happen when my baby was born. It just so happened that I was two weeks from my due date when my husband got his new placement orders.

Six weeks after we welcomed our baby girl, we were shipped out to the army base. While it is highly guarded, I still felt like we were never safe. Anytime we had to go to the market or venture out of the gates of the base, I worried that someone would grab my daughter or kill us and take our money. The good news is that my husband has a nice collection of firearms that the military allowed him to bring along. The bad news is that we could only bring a small amount of ammunition. One of the first guns I learned to shoot as a ten was a 12 gauge shotgun. It is powerful and will definitely offer protection even in an emergency.

But once we were in Colombia, I realized we needed more 12 gauge cartridges if we were going to really be secure. That’s why we started doing some shopping in the local big markets. It was the first time we had ventured more than two miles from the army base, but I was amazed. There was ammo sitting in large barrels and it was dirt cheap! With such high crime rates in the country, they make ammo easily available for citizens to defend themselves. I have never been so happy as when we bought about 25 pounds of shotgun shells for practically pennies on the dollar compared to the cost in the United States.

It turns out that Colombia is not as scary as I had imagined. It’s certainly not the most perfect place in the world, but it could have been much much worse than this. Thanks to my gun and my well rounded supply of ammo, I don’t have to worry anymore! We are safe and we will survive this tour of duty in South America. But I still can’t wait to step my feet back on American soil soon!

In the world in which we live, technology is changing so rapidly it is hard to keep up with. Most of the time by the time you purchase your new cell phone and/or computer it has already been upgraded and replaced by the latest model. I quit trying to keep up with it a long time ago. I still have an iphone 4s….yeah I know so I kind of do keep up with technology at least a little bit.

Technology is sometimes going so fast that we as humans are not able to keep up with the flow. I know that my parents still don’t know exactly how to use their cell phones correctly. I will watch my mom when her cell phone rings and she fondles around with it trying to figure out how to answer it. It’s quite funny really. She has no idea how to listen to a voicemail but she has finally learned how to text. I am not sure my parents ever learned how to use their old vcr either but now its funny to watch them try to learn how to use their television remote control. Sometimes they will call me and my husband over to show them how to use it so that they can watch a different show than the one they typically watch every day, which is Fox News. I think their television only has that one station.

Technology is changing but we need not be afraid of the changes, we need to learn to go with the changes and make the best of what we are given. It is exciting to see just where technology will take us in the future.

If there’s one thing we can’t get enough of, it’s news about techie gadgets and trends. If you love using electronic cigarettes and want to stay on top of related news, the Internet is a vast mine of resources just waiting to be explored. When it comes to technology news there’s a few things you have to keep in mind.

The internet is a great place to stay up to date on the latest technology news. You can even program your phone to send you an alert whenever a product you’re interested in gets mentioned. The best places to stay up to day on the latest technology news include forums, official company websites, social media, and blogs about technology and electronic cigarettes.

If you enjoy hands on opportunities to explore new technology, you should look into attending real time trade shows and conferences. The great thing about these sources of information is that in even after the products you’ve been waiting for have been unveiled and released to the general public, you’ll still be able to stay on top of things like how to use the products, updates you need, and other news you’ll find interesting. Plus, they’re a great way to virtually meet people who share your love of all sorts of gadgets, including electronic cigarettes.

It doesn’t matter if you’re waiting on the release of a new brand of electronic cigarettes or the latest version of your favorite tablet, you have to be patient and you can’t get overly upset if there’s a delay in the release date. No matter how carefully the manufacture plans, there always seems to be some sort of unpredictable issue often during the beta test which takes place just before the release date that needs to be rectified before the general public. Depending on how big the problem is, the release date could be pushed back by a few days or even a few months. Instead of getting upset, remember that the manufacture is doing everything they can and will release your anticipated technology product right as quickly as possible.

If you have dreams of one day getting electronic cigarettes and other devices for free prior to their release date, there’s a few things you should know. Companies don’t randomly hand out free items to everyone who asks. The people who get free devices are the ones who have established themselves as product reviewers. This is a reputation that takes time to develop. The best way to get started will be creating a blog and posting constructive reviews of the products you use every single day. Make sure you say what you like about the product and how you use it. Don’t be afraid to mention any details you think could be better. It will take some time, but as your blog becomes popular, technology companies will actually reach out to you and ask you if you to test out the electronic cigarettes and other new things in exchange for an honest review. In the beginning, the items you’ll be provided will be small things, but the more followers your blog gets, the more expensive the free stuff you get becomes.

The most exciting thing I can tell you about recent technology is one little word…Vigo. This little word is going to make a huge difference in our lives as my husband tends to sleep every time he gets behind the wheel. Long drives can be fun but when your husband is sleeping it can be quite scary. I don’t know how many times I have looked over to see his eyes completely shut as we ride down the road. It doesn’t matter if he has had an adequate amount of sleep the night before, as soon as my husband gets behind the wheel, he starts nodding off. It is quite aggravating for those of us who are riding in the car with him

Vigo is a new device that is worn by the sleepy driver. It helps to keep you on track by nudging you when you start to nod off to sleep. On a side note, this little product can be used to help students who have a hard time keeping themselves awake in the classroom. The Vigo tracks patterns from your body movements and the times between your blinks. It decides when it sees that you are getting sleepy by calculating this data and gives you a nice little nudge when it “feels” you are. I know that when I see this product in the store that I am going to purchase it not matter what! Can’t wait!

In other cool technology news Curved UHD TV’s are on their way to a home near you. Flat screens and LCD’s are on their way out. Even LED’s are going out slowly. UHD TV’s have a brighter picture with a curved screen for your viewing pleasure. And to think I was saving my money for a new flat screen. Technology is hard to keep up with!

As the world continues to improve in the world of technology it can be very confusing for the average person. Who would have thought that there would come a day when we could answer our phone by using our watch? Who would have envisioned a time when every home had a computer? Could we have seen the coming days when the world would be consumed by cell phones? Technology is all around us and we are reaping the benefits. It has never been easier to communicate over distance and it has never been more cost effective! Technology has literally removed the barrier of time and distance. This is a great thing and it has lead to a vastly improved life. So what are some of the most amazing new technologies right now?

As mentioned previously, the new watch phone by Samsung is pretty amazing. This watch has incorporated the technology of a tablet into a watch. There have also been major advances in the medical industry. Did you know that there is a new procedure where a heart valve can be replaced without having to have open-heart surgery? This is great news for people that have heart disease and it means a lower cost as well as a better chance to recover and live a more healthy life. There is also a new technology that allows for a limb to be attached to a body without the need for real human tissue? This is similar to a robotic limb. Technology is awesome and the world is really making leaps and bounds in this realm. I cannot wait to see what the world has in 20-years. Who knows? Perhaps we will get those hovercraft cars after all.

I graduated from high school in the year 2000. I still remember that New Years Eve when the calendar changed over from 1999 to 2000. All of my friends and even my family were out partying, celebrating the dawn of a brand new age. I wasn’t quite so sure though. I asked my boyfriend to take me home early and I waited for midnight alone, feeling anxious that this new millennium might not be as great as everyone was saying. Maybe it was the conspiracy theories about Y2K that spooked me, but I felt like the coming decades could be catastrophic. It turns out that a lot has changed since the 1990’s! In just the past 13 years, we’ve seen numerous advances in technology that are changing the world.

Let’s start with cell phones. In 2000, I had a cell phone but it was big and boxy and stayed in my car at all times, plugged into the cigarette lighter. I only used it in emergencies and had to pull out the antenna to get a decent signal. Today, cell phones are everywhere. In fact, I’ve ditched my landline in favor of my cell phone.

Then there are computers. In 2000, I relied on a clunk desktop computer and a dial up Internet connection that was so slow! I mostly used the Internet to instant message friends and play games. Now, the Internet is a pivotal part of my daily life. I work online. I use the Internet to keep in touch with friends and family. I even do most of my communication online with email. Times have changed dramatically since 2000! I wonder what the next decade will hold!

As new technology is developed, our world experiences major shifts in both culture and lifestyle. Over the past fifty years, technology has really revolutionized every aspect of life. In fact, we rely on new technology on a daily basis for both work and pleasure. But is all of this change positive? In order to decide, let’s look at some ways technology is changing the world.

First, technology is changing our educational system. In the past, we expected students to memorize important facts and figures. Now, teachers are more interested in teaching students proper research skills. Thanks to the Internet, information is always available at our fingertips. You can google any question and get an answer within seconds. So instead of memorizing information, today’s students are just taught how to access it instantly online. Is this positive? Maybe and maybe not. As long as the Internet provides good accurate information, it’s probably okay. However, who is really policing the internet to insure the information published is correct? Additionally, what happens if we suddenly see the internet crash? People will have no basic knowledge to help them in life without access to their source of information.

Second, technology is changing our communication system. Instead of spending time in face to face conversation with people, we rely on the Internet and mobile phones to communicate. When you think of the amount of time people spend socializing online vs. the amount of time they spend socializing in person, it’s obvious that our society is becoming very isolated. We don’t spend time together like we used to because technology allows us to communicate from opposite sides of the world.

Once you go Mac, you will never go back. That’s what I tell all my PC-loyal friends. I used to be a regular Microsoft girl. I had owned and operated every version of Windows that had ever been released. Overall, I thought my computer was functional and I didn’t have any big complaints. Unfortunately, that didn’t last forever. One day my computer caught a virus that crashed the whole system. Despite my expensive antivirus software, this virus wipes out my hard drive, causing me to lose hundreds of family photos and some important work documents. When I went shopping for a new computer, virus protection was my number one goal.

That’s when the computer guy at my local electronic store told me about Apple products. He explained that his Mac had never had a virus and that it ran with a much more intuitive system than all the PC’s he had used previously. I didn’t know much about Apple and I was honestly a little skeptical. I mean these computers are a lot more expensive than the Microsoft compatible PC’s that I was looking at. Still, I agreed to do some research on Macintosh before I made a final decision.

After reading a lot of reviews online, I realized that Mac was the best decision. I bought a MacBook Pro laptop and I have never regretted that decision for a single second. My Mac has never had a single problem. In fact, the only program that has ever crashed on my computer was Microsoft Word… go figure!

Do you remember the first cell phones? These suitcase phones had a long cord that connected to the suitcase charger. Carrying your phone was like carrying a briefcase. Plus you had to pull out the long antenna to get any reception. Even with the antenna fully extended, you were likely to encounter terrible static on the average phone call. Things have certainly changed, haven’t they? Today’s cell phones are small enough to fit in your pocket, but powerful enough to replace your desktop computer. You can make phone calls, check your email, listen to music, and watch TV shows all from this one tiny device. So how can you choose the best mobile phone when there are so many options out there?

The first thing you need to think about is what functionality you really need from your phone. Do you have to have a phone that doubles as a computer or do you need a basic phone just to use in emergencies? If you need a smartphone, what features are most important to you? Maybe you will mostly use the phone to check your emails or touch base with friends on Facebook or other social networks. On the other hand, you might want to use your phone to listen to music or watch YouTube videos. Make a list of the most important features you want from your phone and take the list with you when you go shopping. Then you can double check to make sure the phone you pick will do everything you need!
